Luis Salazar

Luis Salazar Caballero, at rest January 23, 2025.  Beloved partner of the late Elsa Moreno, cherished son of the late Aurelia Caballero Vazquez and the late Ramon Salazar Labrada. Loving grandfather of Maggie, Delia and Silverio, and Dearest Great Grandfather of Jose, Armani, Xavier, Amina and Carmelo. He was born in Oriente, Cuba where he later emigrated to the United States, a political refugee making Chicago’s neighborhood La Villita his beloved home.  He will forever be remembered by his loud laughter and known to all as “El Cubano”.  May he rest in peace.

When I must leave you for a little while -- please do not grieve and shed wild tears and hug your sorrow to you through the years, but start out bravely with a gallant smile.  And for my sake and in my name live on and do all things the same, feed not your loneliness on empty days, but fill each waking hour in useful ways, Reach out your hand in comfort and in cheer and I in turn will comfort you and hold you near.  And never, never be afraid to die, for I am waiting for you in the sky.
