Fred L. "Freddy" Kirkley, age 75, of Stickney IL, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Alden Valley Ridge. Freddy was born on March 16, 1949, in Rolling Fork, Mississippi, son of Richard L. Kirkley and Melvina L. Kirkley. Fred was a U.S. Marine Corps rifleman and served during the Vietnam War. Fred was awarded the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Vietnamese Campaign Medal. Fred was an all-American patriot, and he was so honored to serve his country. During his tenure in the U.S. Marine Corps, he was injured in the line of fire and had to end his military career and retire. After his military career, he lived a wonderful life with his sister Dianna Strecker and her children Christopher Moreno and Jeannie Orcutt along with his great nephew and great niece James and Lydia Alvarez. Fred loved sharing his amazing stories that never made much sense to most individuals, but he knew how to make everyone laugh. Fred will be missed by all of his family and all those who loved him. Fred is survived by his 2 brothers, Larry Kirkley, of Bowling Green, KY, Roy Lee (Martha) Kirkley, of Elk Grove, CA., his 2 sisters, Dianna L. Strecker, of Stickney, IL and Doris J. Kirkley, of New Castle, DE, his 4 nieces, Michelle (Cleve) Hardcastle of Temecula, CA Kimberly Kirkley (fiancé Kelby Coultas) of LaMirada, CA, Jeannie Orcutt (Jeffrey Thilmany), of Streamwood, IL Sharon Kirkley, of Meridian, ID, his 3 nephews, Kenny (Michelle) Kirkley of Glendale Heights, IL, Roy Lee (Tara) Kirkley, of Fort Worth, TX, Joey (Jenny) Kirkley, of Orland Park, IL and many great nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his father, Richard L. Kirkley; his mother, Melvina L. Kirkley; his brother Richard “Dicky” J. Kirkley; and his nephew, Christopher Moreno. Private family interment at Ft. Sheridan National Cemetery, Lake Forest, IL.
