Monica Felicia Clanton

Monica Felicia Clanton, age 61, a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, passed away
peacefully on January 23, 2022 after a courageous battle with COPD.

In 1981, Monica enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. She valued this service highly and
attained the rank of Sergeant. As a Drill Sergeant, she conditioned and transitioned thousands of
enlisted women with the skills needed to serve as Marines.

Monica received a Masters of Health Science in Addictions Studies, Substance Abuse/Addiction
Counseling, and a Bachelors and Masters of Social Work from Governors State University. As a
therapist, she focused on Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavior, Existential, Reality, and Prayer
Therapy. Monica was passionate about helping others, particularly children. As a foster parent,
she opened and welcomed many children needing a home and caring parental support.

Monica is survived by her son Terrance (Tia and Jasmine). She is further survived by three
beautiful grandchildren that she adored Malcolm, London and Dallas, siblings Toni (Ty), Delacey
(Mckeela), Rodney (Crystal), Bryant, Mark (Duwanna), and many nieces, nephews, extended
family members, and wonderful supporting friends. Monica was preceded in death by her
parents, Bernice and Delacey.

Monica's family would like to thank her medical teams at the Veterans Administration and Loyola
University Medical Center for Monica's care, kindness, and prayers.

The family will celebrate Monica's life as she requested on her birthday. In addition, the family
asks that family and friends support three causes that were important to Monica: charities
supporting veterans, children in need of a home, and organ donations.
